Research Focus "Cell Differentiation, Regeneration and Neoplasia"
Coordinators: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Georg Lenz, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Frank Tüttelmann (equal speakership)
The research focus Cell Differentiation, Regeneration and Neoplasia was conceptually restructured in October 2015 by merging reproductive and tumor medicine.
Basic scientific and clinical reproductive research has a long tradition in Münster and has been funded for many years through DFG collaborative research projects. The core institutions include the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Andrology (CeRA) and the UKM Fertility Center. The area was significantly strengthened in 2020 with the founding of the Institute for Reproductive Genetics (IRG). The scientific focus has been the DFG-funded Clinical Research Group "Male Germ Cells" (KFO326, spokesperson: Jörg Gromoll, coordinator: Frank Tüttelmann) since 2017. The BMFTR-funded Junior Research Center "ReproTrack.MS" offers a structured program for ten postdoctoral researchers and clinicians in the field of reproductive medicine to advance their academic careers. The DFG Collaborative Research Center CRC1748 "Reproduction.MS" (spokespersons: Prof. Dr. Frank Tüttelmann, Prof. Dr. Timo Strünker, Prof. Dr. Nina Neuhaus) will expand and strengthen ongoing efforts to establish a beacon of excellence in deciphering the molecular mechanisms of male infertility.
Tumor medicine at the University of Münster is characterized by outstanding scientific achievements, with a particular focus on malignant lymphomas, acute leukemias, and sarcomas. Since 2021, our Comprehensive Cancer Center has been funded as a center of excellence by the German Cancer Aid in close cooperation with the University Hospital Essen as part of the West German Tumor Center (WTZ).
