Research Focus "Cell Differentiation, Regeneration and Neoplasia"

Coordinators: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Georg Lenz, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Frank Tüttelmann (equal speakership)

The research focus Cell Differentiation, Regeneration and Neoplasia was conceptually restructured in October 2015 by merging reproductive and tumor medicine.
Basic and clinical reproductive research has a long tradition in Münster and has been funded by DFG collaborative research projects for many years. The core institutions include the Centre for Reproductive Medicine and Andrology (CeRA) and the UKM Fertility Centre. This area was significantly strengthened in 2020 with the establishment of the Institute of Reproductive Genetics (IRG). Since 2017, the scientific focus has been the DFG-funded Clinical Research Group 'Male Germ Cells' (KFO326, spokesperson: Jörg Gromoll, coordinator: Frank Tüttelmann). The SFB initiative Reproduction.MS (spokespersons: Frank Tüttelmann & Timo Strünker), with a significantly broader focus, is currently being established.
Tumor medicine at the University of Münster is characterized by outstanding scientific achievements, with a particular focus on malignant lymphomas, acute leukemias, and sarcomas. Since 2021, our Comprehensive Cancer Center has been funded as a center of excellence by the German Cancer Aid in close cooperation with the University Hospital Essen as part of the West German Tumor Center (WTZ).
