The team of Prof. Klaus Dreisewerd and Dr. Jens Soltwisch, both from the Institute for Hygiene - Section: Biomedical Mass Spectrometry, has significantly improved the analytical sensitivity and display accuracy of imaging mass spectrometry. Since 2014, in an IZKF-funded method development project and a subsequent IZKF project, the researchers have been developing an extension of the known technique with a second intense, ultraviolet laser pulse, which generates a large number of additional charged biomolecules and achieves a much more precise representation of the composition of the objects examined. In cooperation with the company Bruker Daltonics GmbH & Co. KG, Bremen, the "timsTOF fleX MALDI-2" mass spectrometer was developed, which has been on the market since 2020. The University of Münster honored this outstanding research with the Transfer Prize 2020/21. We extend our heartiest congratulations to the winners of the Transfer Prize!
