It is with deep sadness that the Board of Directors of the IZKF Münster learned of the death of Professor Reinhold E. Schmidt. The long-time director of the Clinic for Immunology and Rheumatology and Dean of the Hannover Biomedical Research School (HBRS) died on January 23, 2022 at the age of 70.

As a long-standing member and chair of the external Scientific Advisory Board, Professor Schmidt knew how to steer and direct the fortunes of the IZKF Münster from 2005 to 2018. With his friendly, humane personality and his leadership and commitment, he made a great contribution to the further development of the IZKF Münster. The promotion of young scientists was particularly important to him and he used his ideas and experience gained from founding the MD/PhD program at the Hannover Medical School to develop the Clinician Scientist Format SEED-projects at the IZKF Münster.

We will always hold Professor Reinhold Schmidt in the highest regard and honor his memory.
