IZKF celebrates its 20th anniversary as an internal funding instrument for cutting-edge research in the Faculty of Medicine

On 01 June 1996 the first 25 research projects commenced their research work at the IZKF Münster, which was funded as one of eight centers by the BMBF as part of the nationwide funding measure "Gesundheitsforschung 2000". Over the last 20 years, the IZKF Münster has financed 260 research projects, 98 research rotations and 12 junior research groups with a total volume of more than 90 million euros. Interdisciplinary, efficient and high-performance structures for patient-oriented clinical research were set up in order to strengthen the research profile of Münster's Medical Faculty, including the transparent allocation of research funds based on performance criteria, the targeted promotion of junior scientists by funding research rotations for clinicians and junior research groups, the establishment of faculty-wide core units and technology platforms accessible to all faculty members, the consistent evaluation of support measures and structural developments.
