An infection is determined by the pathogen, the host and the environment. These three factors must be taken into account in order to understand how an infection develops. (c) Frieder Schaumburg

Our basic research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of infections, especially with Staphylococcus aureus. Within the framework of application-oriented research projects, we aim to improve and accelerate the diagnostics of pathogens and antibiotic resistance. With our translational projects, we are making our contribution to improving medical care in Germany and sub-Saharan Africa.

We attach great importance to promoting young scientists and offer a variety of microbiological research projects (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD theses, medical and dental doctoral theses).
