The CareerS Group module offers physicians who are at an advanced stage of their clinical specialisation training as well as recently qualified specialist physicians initial funding to set up their own research group and apply for additional external funds. Two factors are crucial when taking this important career step towards a research leader position: protected research time on the one hand, and the chance to acquire leadership skills on the other. Our aim is to provide you during this phase with flexible funding and a network that will support you on every level.

• opportunity to set up your own research group over three years with ≥ 50 % protected research time
• in parallel to advanced clinical specialisation training and initial phase as specialist physician
• up to €130,000 per year over three years (to cover personnel and material costs)
• requirements: application submitted up to eight years after MD (taking individual circumstances into account for the purposes of equal opportunities, in line with DFG criteria), proof of scientific independence, initial experience of leading students/doctoral candidates
