Research output in terms of publications
Only after they are published do research findings become public knowledge. The Faculty of Medicine Münster particularly supports publications that are especially visible internationally, either through a particular journal or a high number of citations.
Publication Management at the Medical Faculty of Münster

For many years, the EVALuna Biblio system from Binary-Design has been used to examine the publication profiles of the organisational units at North Rhine-Westphalia's Medical Faculties. These analyses, as well as the bibliometric indicators acquired as a result, are utilised to compute performance-based bonus amounts for publication achievements at both the state and faculty levels.
The EVALuna Biblio-System is a computer-based, online platform that allows for the transparent, efficient, and comprehensive collecting of multiple publication indications in a highly uniform and comparable manner, even across locations. Researchers are involved in the data collection process to guarantee that it is complete. By connecting to relevant known databases (e.g., PubMed, WoS), users' input work is minimised while the quality of imported data is ensured. The EVALuna Biblio-System's flexibility allows it to accommodate both state-wide assessment models and the site-specific needs of individual faculties. Thus, the Münster system provides researchers with more options for using it.
Bibliometric Analyses
Bibliometric analyses, which evaluate publications and their authors using bibliometric variables such as number and citation frequency, occasionally accounting for subject- and discipline-specific variances, are used to assess research performance. The bibliometric publication indicators employed must adequately account for the changing quality of the publications included.
All German university medical faculties use a wide range of publication indicators for faculty-internal funding allocation (LOM) that is determined by performance and parameters (Map of University Medicine, 2nd ed.).
