The NUM Basic Infrastructures were developed from the sub-projects of the first funding period and was continuously funded by the BMFTR (formerly BMBF) until June 2025.
Münster is involved in the following infrastructure projects:
The goal of the AKTIN@NUM project is to ensure the basic operation of the AKTIN Emergency Department Registry with the participation of at least 50 emergency departments in 2022 and 70 emergency departments from 2023 onwards (subject to the approval of the AKTIN2.0 project - Disseminating the AKTIN Emergency Department Registry), both in university and non-university hospitals, as a nationwide infrastructure for real-time healthcare research and surveillance.

RACOON was able to initiate a nationwide infrastructure network in Phase 1 of the NUM and demonstrate its functionality as a connecting research infrastructure for pandemic control using a large, newly collected dataset (>14,000 patients).

The NUM Routine Data Platform (NUM-RDP) project aims to provide a generic routine data platform. "Routine data" refers to data from clinical routine documentation of patient care.
In the first funding period, NUM built on the existing structures of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and added the option of centralised, cross-institutional data collection, storage, and retrieval to the existing possibility of federated data management and analysis. This central data infrastructure will be expanded in the future in collaboration with MII partners to include a data management office. This will enable the implementation of collaborative research projects in the medium term, where data on all core data set modules from NUM-RDP and MII can be received from the Data Integration Centers (DIZ) and made available for Broad-Consent-based research projects. Additionally, the NUM dashboard supports pandemic management with near-real-time central tracking of healthcare utilisation and patient characteristics.

Starting in 2023, the Data Integration Centers (DIZ) of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) were integrated into the NUM.
