Access to data and biosamples from the NUM projects

The Network of University Medicine aims to collect, evaluate, and integrate data, findings, action plans, diagnostic, and treatment strategies from all German university hospitals and potentially other stakeholders to achieve rapid improvements in prevention and patient care in the event of a pandemic. Since 2020, the NUM has been collecting the above-mentioned information and recruiting patients within its projects.

On this page, you will find information on how to access the developed results, collected data, and biosamples.

Results of the 1st funding period 2020-2021

The first NUM projects have been completed, and numerous results have been generated. Detailed final reports from the projects of the first funding period can be found on the NUM website.

In several projects, databases with patient data were created to advance research on COVID-19, and these data are available to researchers through a Use & Access procedure. A summary of the results and information on how to access the relevant data for your research can be found here.

National Pandemic Cohort Netwerk (NAPKON)
Since December 2020, patients have been recruited for the National Pandemic Cohort Network (NAPKON) of the Network University Medicine for COVID-19 (NUM). All researchers interested in these data and biosamples can submit an application for the NAPKON Use & Access procedure.
What can the data and biosamples be used for?
- For scientific research projects and resulting publications
- For presentations
- For recruiting patient collectives for follow-up studies
- For preparing further statistical analysis

What data and biosamples are available?
- To date, more than 5,000 patients have been recruited nationwide (across all three platforms: SÜP, HAP, and POP).
- From these patients, biosamples, medical history, visit, and image data are available, among other things. A detailed list of the collected data and biosamples can be found on the NAPKON website.
- Münster is participating in the sector-overlapping platform (SÜP) with the Medical Clinic B. For data and samples from the local site, there is a simplified procedure.

The COVID-19 Evidence Ecosystem (CEOsys)
The COVID-19 pandemic forces us all to make important decisions under great pressure. The basis for these decisions is the still incomplete and rapidly growing knowledge about COVID-19. CEOsys (short for: COVID-19 Evidence Ecosystem) helps to keep an overview of the flood of information.
On the CEOsys homepage, experts can access S3 guidelines that are based on evidence analyses developed by CEOsys. Additionally, you can find easily understandable summaries and recommendations for action for laypeople, politicians, and anyone who wants to quickly inform themselves about the most important aspects of COVID-19.
The COVID-19 study register, further developed within the framework of CEOsys by Cochrane, aims to make global clinical research on COVID-19 efficiently searchable. The study register is integrated into the CEOsys website.
