Second International Symposium „Autoinflammation breaks Barriers“ at the Faculty of Medicine Münster brings experts for inflammations and barrier research together

About 170 scientists discussed new findings in inflammation research at the 2nd International Meeting of the Collaborative Research Centers 1009 and TR 128 as well as the BMBF network AID-NET of the Medical Faculty of Münster from November 20th to 22nd. The focus of the symposium was on discovering new differentiation pathways for tissue macrophages, the influence of the innate immune system on overcoming tissue boundaries and the latest analyzes on the "Innate Lymphoid Cells", a recently discovered cell type of the immune system that is believed to be responsible for protecting the barriers. In addition to inflammatory reactions in the central nervous system or in the skin, special emphasis was placed on the lung epithelium, which is the most frequently infected tissue in the human body. In their lectures, the internationally outstanding experts repeatedly pointed out how difficult it is to find the right therapy for the affected patient, even with proven mechanisms in special cells. All participants agreed on the importance of scientific exchange and interdisciplinary cooperation in this context. The successful series of the symposium will therefore be continued in two years. For the best poster presentations, Sandra Gran (3rd from left, photo above) from the Institute for Immunology and Marie-Luise Lubos (2nd from right) from the Institute for Infectious Diseases (ZMBE) won a prize each worth 500 euros, donated by Bühlmann Laboratories AG (Schönenbruch / Basel, Switzerland).
