Identification of new antibiotic resistance mechanisms using deep learning

The project “Identification of new antibiotic resistance mechanisms using deep learning” is an international research collaboration between Prof. Dr. Dominik Heider and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Prof. Dr. Margaret Ip), funded by the DAAD.
The aim of the project is to use deep learning to identify new resistance mechanisms to antibiotics. The research is in the field of bioinformatics and microbiology and uses modern AI methods to analyze previously unknown resistance factors in bacterial pathogens.
Through the exchange of scientists between Germany and Hong Kong, new bioinformatics models are to be developed and applied to large amounts of data. The findings could contribute to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches against antibiotic-resistant germs.
