Mechanisms of transendothelial fibroblast migration in rheumatoid arthritis
Research area: Synovial inflammationProf. Dr. med. Thomas PapFunding period: July 2012 - June 2016
SummaryMechanisms of transendothelial fibroblast migration in rheumatoid arthritisLong distance migration of activated fibroblasts via the bloodstream has been suggested to contribute to the spreading of rheumatoid arthritis from one joint to another, but the underlying mechanisms are largely unclear. In this project, we want to investigate how different cell adhesion molecules contribute to and regulate the migration of synovial fibroblasts through endothelial barriers. Using mechanisms of leukocyte migration as a paradigm, we want to analyze similarities and differences in cell-cell interactions as well as investigate the relevance and targetability of these mechanisms in vitro and in vivo.
