Autopenetrating bacterial effector proteins and modulation of signaling responses in cellular barriers

    We have identified several T3SS-effectors of Gram-negative pathogens as ’cell-penetrating effector proteins (CPE)’. CPE derived from E. coli, Yersinia, and Shigella will be characterized for cellular uptake, intracellular trafficking, modulation of signaling pathways, their possibilities for heterologous cargo transport, and their effects on cellular barriers with and without shear stress under flow in 2-D and 3-D models. Furthermore, we will address potential therapeutic options in murine models of autoimmune diseases
