The University is located in Santiago de Chile and it is a public university with international quality. The IDIMI (Maternal and Child Research Institute) is an institute of the University of Chile placed in a public Hospital attending more than 6000 deliveries per year. The Reproductive Medicine Unit (RMU) of the IDIMI and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Clinical Hospital San Borja Arriarán – Faculty of Medicine – University of Chile is a National referral center in infertility. The operating room of IDIMI works 7 days a week and more than 300 laparoscopic surgeries are carried out each year. This number of patients guarantees the number of cases required for basic science and clinical research. The IDIMI labs are situated in the second floor of the hospital counting with complete sets of laboratory equipment. The IDIMI dispose, between others, of ultracentrifuge, and counters; cold room; cell culture rooms including hoods, compound, fluorescent and inverted microscopes; RT-PCR; Western blot equipment, including Thyphoon imaging; ELISA; spectrophotometer; refrigerators; and laser microcapture.
The UNIVERSIDAD DE CHILE team is led by Prof. Reinaldo Rodrigo González Ramos, M.D., Ph.D., who has performed pioneering work on the role of NfkB in chronic inflammation in endometriosis. Further group members are Luigi Devoto, MD (Postdoc, Clinical Researcher), Alejandro Tapia Pizarro, PhD (Postdoc, Biomedical Researcher), and María Cecilia Johnson, PhD (Postdoc, Biomedical Researcher), 8 clinical MDs, 3 additional clinical researchers, 1 master student, 4 undergraduate researchers, and 3 postgraduate researchers.
