The University is located in Santiago de Chile and it is a public university with international quality. It has 14 Faculties, 4 interdisciplinary institutes, close to 40.000 students, and 3.386 Faculty members, of which 2.070 are full-time. The university is placed among the 500 best higher educational establishments in the World Ranking of Universities (University Shanghai Jiao Tong). 

The IDIMI (Maternal and Child Research Institute) is an institute of the University of Chile placed in a public Hospital attending more than 6000 deliveries per year. The Reproductive Medicine Unit (RMU) of the IDIMI and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Clinical Hospital San Borja Arriarán – Faculty of Medicine – University of Chile is a National referral center in infertility. The operating room of IDIMI works 7 days a week and more than 300 laparoscopic surgeries are carried out each year. This number of patients guarantees the number of cases required for basic science and clinical research. The IDIMI labs are situated in the second floor of the hospital counting with complete sets of laboratory equipment. The IDIMI dispose, between others, of ultracentrifuge, and counters; cold room; cell culture rooms including hoods, compound, fluorescent and inverted microscopes; RT-PCR; Western blot equipment, including Thyphoon imaging; ELISA; spectrophotometer; refrigerators; and laser microcapture.
