Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME-CONICET) Dr. Gabriela Meresman is the head of this lab that specializes in the study of endometriosis in a context of basic/applied scientific research. The study of the endometrial pathophysiology allows us to suggest new targets for endometriosis treatment, evaluating natural compounds that could act directly on the implants by inhibiting the mechanisms involved in the development of the disease. Our ultimate goal is to find therapies compatible with maintaining or even improving the fertility outcome and that can be used along the pregnancy. We also study the molecular mechanisms implicated in the immune privilege that protects the growth of endometriotic tissue and the mechanisms involved in the ectopic endometrial adhesion, invasion and survival. Discovering central molecules in endometriosis establishment and development can bring light over new targets to be explored. In a most recent line of research, we are focusing on the relationship between endometriosis and ovarian cancer and the mechanisms that play a role in this neoplasic transformation.
Our lab is immersed in the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME), a multidisciplinary research center which aims at promoting the progress of biological sciences and experimental medicine through research and the training of human resources. IBYME belongs to the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), the main organization in charge of the promotion of science and technology in Argentina.
