Our research group investigates the functional role of brain rhythms under physiological and pathological conditions.
Human brain activity is characterised partly by rhythmic components at frequencies ranging from about 1-150 Hz. Many studies have shown that these rhythms are present under physiological conditions and can be characteristically changed under pathological conditions. We use MEG and EEG to observe these rhythms non-invasively in the human brain. Sophisticated methods allow us to estimate how these rhythms change dynamically in specific brain areas and how these changes are related to disease state or cognitive tasks.
