The ToSyMa study is currently the largest randomized controlled trial comparing digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography) with standard 2D digital mammography in breast cancer screening. It includes approximately 100 000 participants across multiple screening centers in Germany.
The study evaluates whether tomosynthesis improves cancer detection and diagnostic accuracy while reducing recall rates. Due to its size, randomized design, and complex diagnostic endpoints, biostatistics plays a central role in the analysis and interpretation of the results.
