Dr. Miriam Schulte receives Maria Möller Doctoral Award

The rare but serious synovial sarcoma, a tumour of the soft tissue, is the subject of the research of Dr Miriam Schulte, a doctoral student at the University of Münster. Even though the tumour is still unexplored in many areas, science agrees on one point: the tumour can cause a chromosomal translocation, i.e. a "change of place" of the chromosomes and associated abnormalities. The connection between the transcription factor CREB, a protein that binds to certain DNA regions, and the tumour growth of synovial sarcoma cells has also been proven in the meantime. Dr. Miriam Schulte has researched how these findings can be used for treatment. She has now been awarded the 1,000 euro doctoral prize of the Maria Möller Foundation.
