Module 4a "Basic mtDNA Analysis" and 4b "Advanced mtDNA Analysis"

Module Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Walther Parson

Module 4a: Basic mtDNA Analysis

Participating laboratories will receive two reference samples (e.g., blood or buccal swabs) and are expected to apply their standard procedures and routinely used methods. In addition to the haplotype data, the results form will request the outcome of an EMPOP query, the estimated haplogroup, and a written interpretation of the findings. This written component may include a phylogeographic assessment or other relevant contextual information.

Participants will receive a certificate of successful participation upon submission of correct results

Module 4b: Advanced mtDNA Analysis

Participating laboratories will receive one realistic trace sample (e.g., a hair shaft or bone material) and are expected to apply their standard procedures and routinely used methods. In addition to the haplotype data, the submission form will request the outcome of an EMPOP query, haplogroup assignment, and a written interpretation of the findings. This interpretation may include a phylogeographic assessment or other relevant contextual information.

Participants will receive a certificate of participation.

A summary of all submitted results will be made available, allowing each laboratory to evaluate its own performance in comparison to others.
