Module 7: "Extended Trace Analysis"

Module Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Katja Anslinger

This module comprises three parts to chose from:

A - Forensic DNA Phenotyping
B - Epigenetic Age Estimation
C - Biogeographic Ancestry

The participating laboratories will receive three blood samples. There will be enough material to analyse all three parts of this modules, if participants whish to do so.

For the Forensic DNA Phenotyping the participants will type the HIrisPlex-S markers for eye, hair and skin colour prediction. The input of results will include the detected genotypes, an evaluation of the p-values obtained using the HIrisPlex-S Webtool developed by the Erasmus University Rotterdam and a verbalisation of the results as an expert opinion.

For Epigenetic Age Estimation, participants will carry out an age estimation based on quantitative DNA methylation analysis. The input of results will include information about the applied age estimation model such as the markers used and the sample size of the reference and test collectives as well as a verbalisation of the results as an expert opinion.

For Biogeographic Ancestry, participants will determine the biogeographic ancestry of the sample donors using markers previously validated in the respective lab. The input of results will include the specification of the markers and analysis tools used as well as a brief verbal summary of the results.

Participants will receive a certificate of participation. A summary of all results will be made available so that the laboratory can assess its own performance.
