Gene expression profiling is a field of molecular biology techniques that allows to measure the activity of thousands of genes in a cell. DNA microarrays in particular can assess the relative activity, while RNA-seq is a next-generation sequencing approach that offers additional quantitative information.
In cooperation with the Institute of Molecular Tumor Biology of the University of Münster, we have analysed both murine and human microarray and RNA-seq data. The computational challenge arises not only from calculating the expression of single genes, but to evaluate the significance of the observed differences. Different forms of visualization, gene set enrichment analyses or clustering approaches are usually used to complement this type of analysis.
