The University of Insubria is located in north Italy (founded in 1998) in VARESE and COMO, with 8 Departments and about 12.000 students with about 400 research staff. The Passi’s lab is located in VARESE in the Bizzozzero campus, where the hospitals and School of Medicine has labs, dorms and classrooms. Recently a new sport facility centre has been added to the campus. Passi’s lab has an international staff, including researchers from different European countries. The language is usually English for all staff and technicians. It is usual a lab meeting every Thursday where one components presents his incoming data in English using a power point presentation in order to practice in managing and presenting data. Every month the same is for all members of the Department. Every semester the PhD students of the PhD school (biotechnology and medicine) present to the school faculty members the data. The laboratory of biochemistry and molecular biology in Department of Surgery and Morphological Sciences in Varese, is equipped to perform biochemical and molecular biology experiments. The personnel of the prof Passi’s laboratory accounts 2 associate professor and 3 assistant professors as well as 3 PhD student and a full time technician. The laboratory is located in a specific building completely dedicated to basic research and it is part of the Faculty of Medical School of the Insubria University, Varese - Italy. This building has more than 1500 square meters for the laboratories and lab facilities necessary to carry out the experiments. The research group in UNINS has specific technical skills developed to study disaccharides in electrophoresis and UDP sugars in mass spectrometry. The group is able to use an integrated approach based on biochemistry, molecular biology and morphology. The laboratory has established an extensive network of collaborations with research groups in Italy, USA, Sweden, Finland, Greece.
