Welcome to the Institute of Anatomy and Molecular Neurobiology

Our research interests focus on the development of synaptic contacts between neurons in the brain and the mechanisms of synaptic transmission. We analyze important (synaptic) candidate genes of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism or schizophrenia in model organisms (mouse, fruit fly) to contribute to current biomedical research. We apply methods ranging from molecular genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, electrophysiology to light and electron microscopy.

Our teaching commitment includes lab courses, seminars and lectures in all aspects of Human Anatomy for students of Medicine and Dentistry. Additional teaching or research modules are offered in Bachelor and Master study courses of our University (Molecular Biomedicine, Cognitive Neurosciences, Midwiferey). We accompany our teaching efforts by empirical research in the field of medical education.
