eLabFTW: Your Electronic Laboratory Notebook Solution
To support efficient and secure research data management, MFlow offers access to eLabFTW—an advanced electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) system. This web-based platform is available free of charge to all members of the University of Münster and provides a secure environment for recording, organizing, and sharing experimental data and protocols.
With eLabFTW, users benefit from:
- Centralized and structured documentation of research activities
- Enhanced data integrity and reproducibility
- Easy collaboration within research teams
In addition, eLabFTW at MFlow will also serve as the platform through which users can access a wide range of valuable resources—including protocols, curated links to free online tools, educational guides, and experiment planning materials. Whether you're designing multicolor panels, preparing samples, or analyzing data, you'll find tools and references designed to streamline your workflow and support your research goals.
This tool is provided by the Service Center for Data Management at the University and State Library (ULB Münster). Contact us at mflow@uni-muenster.de if you are interested in transitioning to eLabFTW for your research documentation or if you have any questions or need support with getting started.

Mattermost team chat
MFlow uses the WWU Mattermost service for fast, channel‑based communication with users and collaborators. Mattermost is a team chat platform (similar to Slack or Microsoft Teams) provided and hosted by the WWU IT department, offering topic‑based channels, direct messages, file sharing, and searchable message history.
In our Mattermost team, we use dedicated channels for instrument‑related announcements, reporting technical issues, and asking short questions about measurements, bookings, and data handling. This helps us share important updates quickly (e.g. instrument downtime, maintenance, or changes in workflows) and reduces email traffic, making communication with the facility more efficient and transparent.
All WWU members can activate Mattermost via the IT‑Portal and then join the MFlow team with an invitation link that is provided in our user communication. Clients are available for web, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, so users can stay informed about core facility updates from their desktop or mobile devices
