Prof. Dominik Heider has been re-elected to the board of the Bioinformatics Specialist Group (Fachgruppe Bioinformatik – FaBi), continuing his role as Deputy Spokesperson for the 2026–2029 term.

FaBi is a joint specialist group comprising GMDS, DECHEMA, GBM, GDCh, GI, and VAAM. With over 1,300 members, it promotes scientific exchange, networking, and the development of early-career researchers in bioinformatics. In doing so, it contributes to the advancement and visibility of a field that is becoming increasingly vital for modern life sciences and medicine.

Bioinformatics integrates methods from computer science, mathematics, and statistics with the life sciences and medicine. This synergy enables the analysis and integration of vast, complex biological and medical datasets, which are essential for fields such as genomic research and personalized medicine.

Through his election, Prof. Heider will continue to help shape the evolution of the discipline and strengthen the networking of the bioinformatics community at a national level. Furthermore, his appointment highlights the significance of bioinformatics at the intersection of medical informatics and artificial intelligence—a key research focus at the Institute for Medical Informatics at the University of Münster.
