Information Session: Support Services for Clinical Research

How can clinical research projects be planned and executed efficiently? What support is available to researchers when using medical data? These questions were at the heart of the online information session "Local Support Services" hosted by the Medical Faculty of Münster (MFM), which took place on October 26, 2026, with 36 participants.

Dr. Michael Storck from the Institute of Medical Informatics presented the diverse range of services offered by the Medical Data Integration Center (MeDIC). These include the study module for identifying suitable patients for clinical trials and the TriNetX platform, which enables the analysis of real-world data. He also explained the support available for managing study patients, including registration, pseudonymization, and randomization.

Another key focus was the digital collection and management of study data. REDCap was presented as a tool for structured data collection, along with options for mobile patient surveys. Furthermore, Dr. Storck provided information on applying for GDPR-compliant data extracts for studies and biosamples.

The program was rounded off with insights into support for bioinformatic analyses, AI-powered evaluations, and High Performance Computing (HPC). In addition to MeDIC, five other institutions presented their services, providing a comprehensive overview of the various contact points for researchers in the field of clinical research.
