On September 29, 2025, the annual conference of the competence cluster “AVATAR – Anonymization of Personal Health Data through the Creation of Digital Avatars in Medicine and Care” took place in Erfurt. The Institute of Medical Informatics (IMI) participated in the event as part of the collaborative project KI-AIM with its own contribution.

Around 70 experts from medical informatics, law, and industry, as well as representatives of the Thuringian State Seniors’ Council, discussed current approaches and solutions for securely sharing and using health data. The results presented were developed within the framework of three-year research projects dedicated to the responsible handling of sensitive health data.

For the KI-AIM project team, Yannik Warnecke and Daniel Preciado-Marquez presented the software Cinnamon, developed at IMI, in both a scientific talk and a poster presentation entitled “Cinnamon: An Accessible Data Protection and AI-based Synthetization Platform.”

The modular platform Cinnamon provides powerful tools for the anonymization, synthetization, and evaluation of medical data, thereby supporting research and development in the field of privacy-compliant AI applications. The software is freely available on GitHub: https://github.com/KI-AIM/Cinnamon

Researchers interested in the topic are warmly invited to try out Cinnamon and collaborate with us on its further development.
