The functional role of TREK-1 channels and their potential modulation by psychostimulants is investigated in the thalamocortical system
(A) Typical positions of recording (left, in cortex, Cx) and stimulating (right, in the ventrobasal (VB) thalamus) electrodes in a schematic thalamocortical slice (Hip, hippocampus). (B) Representative extracellular field potential recording in a thalamocortical slice from a wildtype (WT) and a TREK-1-defcient (TREK-1-KO) mouse. Slices were stimulated using a bipolar tungsten electrode placed in the VB and extracellular activity was recorded in the Cx with a glass pipette connected to an AC-coupled amplifier.
