Our Passion

Renal transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease yielding a better prognosis and quality of life compared to dialysis. As donor organs are rare, clinicians are confronted with the question under which conditions an offered donor kidney is responsibly acceptable for which patient on the waiting list. Or should a living kidney donation be performed, because it is linked to superior graft function in the recipient? Nevertheless, the involvement of a living kidney donor makes the situation special.

Despite advances in transplant medicine during the last decades, such as the development of effective immunosuppressive drugs, our patients are still endangered e.g. by graft rejection, progressive cardiovascular diseases, or even adverse effects of drugs.

Together we work on these different clinically relevant aspects involving patients before and after kidney transplantation.
